CTACS meeting for August 20, 2002

Tonight we had Keith, Chris, Don, John, Charlie and George(taking the picture). Chris Holcombe brought his A2000 which has started ignoring his mouse making it tedious to get anything done. I brought my A1200 and also a VOM. Chris had brought tools, so we disassembled the A2000. John took out the mother board and brushed away the thick layer of dust and dustbunnies. As you can see from the 2nd photo we deduced the problem. Chris had used a PC mouse at one point and that appears to have shorted the 5 volt supply. The supply kept chugging along and the trace carried the current, blackening the board in short order. The connection from the top of the board to the underside gave up its continuity saving Chris from a worse situation we believe. No one had a spare soldering iron on them so we reassembled it all (well, mostly) and told Chris to bring it back next month. Then is was time for FOOD.

We have been informed that we failed to heed the posted signs last May here at Milwood and didn't ask for the room which has been taken by someone else. The library seemed to find time to call us to tell us to get out, but not any time to ask us if we wanted to stay. Very curious policy.

The PigSIG was well attended. We shared stories of "problems of the heart". Don is still looking for work. Chris is suspicious about the viability of his current job. Charlie is still effusive about having secured a fulltime position with Jourdan-Bachman Pioneer Farms.

If you know of a place about 10 of us can meet, let one of the officers know!
