CTACS General Meeting of April 16, 2012
Mark, Charlie, Arika, and Paul caught at the very start of the PIGSig.
I donated that can of white asphalt paint you see at Paul's right
hand. He wanted that in order to mark roadway hazards to bicyclists
along this work commute.
Mark and Paul were headed off to see a movie and didn't want to be
late so they gobbled and split. Paul was psyched for the MS150 in
just 4 days.
Other attendees this evening were: Arika, Sarah, Carol, Chris, Kathleen,
Charlie, and George doing the photoshoot.
I was especially relieved that IRS 1040 forms were all filled out and
in the mail. Right. I didn't do electronic filing. I use my Amiga's
port of Gnumeric for the spreadsheet of all our forms and input data
that I collect for the occasion. Though I didn't do it this year, for
the past few I have taken my finished report and walked through the
free on-line filers, but they are always problematic and un-fun to use.
Paul participated in the Multiple-Sclerosis 150 bike challenge
(see shirt decoration in the 2nd photo below) again
this year under the umbrella of he and Mark's employer: Oceaneering.
That company's huge contingent is from Houston and Paul only knows
those guys peripherally. He arranged to get his body and bike to Houston
Friday evening in preparation for the early-to-rise start in Houston
Saturday morning.
In La Grange after a company sponsored massage he hit the
sack as early as possible, because... sure enough the sounds of thousands
of people banging the portable pottie doors from midnight on ruined the
rest of the night. Paul knew that from the past.
Carol and George used a map Paul had sent us to locate the
reception tent for the company finishers. All the land just north and east
of the Capitol was crowded with cyclists and well wishers. Thanks to a
phone call about one hour out we were there to greet him early Sunday
afternoon. He was sure glad to be done, but didn't look too ruined after
2 days of biking. Drinks and BBQ perked him up pretty quickly. It was fun
listening to all the cheering around and exhausted, burnt, and scraped
cyclists arrive. Paul's main squeeze, Marilyn Rucker, was having (shock)
trouble parking! So after an hour we continued our afternoon activities.
Paul pointed out that 80% of people we were seeing all had to head back
to Houston.
