CTACS General Meeting for May, 2007

CTACS members around the room

George Wyche arrived at 6:30 and told those already present some additional information about the death of CTACS founding member Don Kassebaum last May 12. George sympathesized with all there about the lack of advance notice about the funeral service last Saturday, May 19. George added,

"None of us had any more notice than the email of Friday night. I just thank Charlie Boas for checking his email as often as he does. Don's heart problems go several years back with a pace maker added just this last January. He had his hands full with doctors trying to control blood pressure, fluid retention, and trying to keep his weight up. I guess it just overwhelmed his body. Don's spirit was very positive and outgoing with plans for a digital camera, Amiga hardware when it became available, and a trip soon to visit his son and family in Dayton."

Charlie, Chris, and Kathleen Boas, along with Carol and George Wyche attended the funeral. Don's three children conducted the funeral with people from Dallas and Austin in attendance. Several people including Charlie spoke about Don's devotion to the things he cared about. During these last several years Don Kassebaum made a point of not being a burden on his family what with all the misfortunes that seem to come his way since 2000.

Well, OK. George was distracted enough to fail to get a photo before half of everyone had left. In the photo are Chris, Mark, Charlie, Raymond, John. Also, we had David, Keith, and Sergei.

George brought Amiga (bad)news of a lawsuit between Amiga Inc. and Hyperion about severe disagreement over OS4 source code.

Also, we got to see a list of promised features of an Amiga Inc. approved new hardware for entry level and advanced computers from Ack, Inc. The brochure said hardware would be available to the public "Summer 2007".

After all of that there was some discussion about older, classic hardware monitor options and trying to put odd assortments of hard disks into a "RAID" of some sort.

The meeting concluded with an announcement from Mark that our June meeting occurs just after his wedding and during his honeymoon aboard a cruise ship so it won't be until July we get to hear details and see pictures.

Man, life does go on. George reported that a few hours before the funeral he was at a birthday for a one year old. Births, weddings, deaths....
